This is a photo of ‘Bubba’ whose mother was imported gravid in 1996, so he is 100% ‘wild type’ and he matches the look of all the imports I have seen. “In the 80s I saw hundreds of wild imported leopard geckos. Tremper achieved success with this breeding project in April 1999. I kept in touch with the owners of this rare gem for a year and helped them with breeding ideas, genetics and a marketing plan.īubba the leopard gecko fathered Ron Tremper’s line of albinos. It turned out that the albino leopard gecko was female, Rosie, and her sibling was a normal-looking male leopard gecko. Sure enough, it was an albino leopard gecko. Two clients of mine reported that they had hatched an albino leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius) from a wild-imported female. In September 1996, I received a phone call that changed the leopard gecko industry forever. Most of these name appear and then quickly vanish, but several seem to persist, based on acceptance by the public and common usage. New names for such specimens are created almost daily by breeders in an effort to gain a foothold in the marketplace. Many breeders are carefully selecting for specimens with a given appearance and crossing their albino specimens to selectively bred color variations to create a host of new ‘morphs’. As a result, a near complete overlap in appearances is present within large samples of albinos, rendering accurate visual separation of the types impossible.Īs mentioned above, the overall appearance of any given albino specimen can be affected by a number of factors. This is not accurate! There is much variation in overall appearance of these albinos, based on the underlying naturally occurring variations present in all populations. Some keepers believe the three types of albinos can be separated visually based on overall appearance. Maintain each line of albino separate and keep good records, or a genetic mess may result! Thus, they are NOT genetically compatible when bred together. Note that the different types (Tremper, Las Vegas, and Bell) have been given different names for a reason - each mutated allele resides at a distinct locus. It was the first of the albinos to be produced. Popularized and brought to market by Ron Tremper, this line is now referred to as the ‘Tremper’ Albino, to differentiate it from the other types of albinos that have since popped up in the market place. The second simple recessive mutation to occur was a beautiful form of albinism. He has now made the Diablo Blancos and is working on Super R.A.P.T.O.R.s (Super Snow RAPTORs). For example, Ron Tremper has developed the R.A.P.T.O.R. Since Tremper Albinos were the first strain of leopard gecko Albinos to be discovered, they are very common and usually the first strain to be worked with when crossing into other morphs. The Tremper Albino eyes tend to be a silver color with red veins. Tremper Albinos can range in colors from dark browns to light yellows, oranges, and pinks. Tremper Albinos, also known as Texas Strain Albinos, were the first of the three strains of Albinos to be discovered in 1996 by Ron Tremper. Since it only affects the melanin pigmentation, albino leos can still show orange, yellow and brown coloring. Albinism in leopard geckos is apparently slightly different, because they are not true albinos but rather extreme amelanistics, which roughly means that they produce virtually no melanin, but still have the potential capability to do so (because all strains do in fact have tyrosinase). Leopard geckos have three types of pigmentation, contained in three different types of cells: melanophores, which contain black pigment (melanin) xanthophores, which contain red, yellow or orange pigment and iridophores, which contain crystalline materals that reflect and refract light.Īlbinism is usually when animals cannot produce melanin because they lack the essential enzyme tyrosinase. That can be a confusing mess to sort out later! It is absolutely critical to be aware which line specimens to be used for breeding programs are from, use of more than one type will result in normal appearing geckos, and if bred together, these may then produce offspring of either or both types. All three are tyrosinase positive forms, and are so similar in appearance they cannot be separated visually with 100% certainty. Three distinct forms of albinism are well-established in Leopard Geckos.

Nicer to do that with your starter blades than with your *nice* ones later. Especially as getting started you really should be breaking a lot of your blades to see how the forging and heat treat has affected them. I also agree that working on a proper alloy for a blade helps in a lot more different areas. I agree that *all* hammer time helps some. My comment about having fun and practice aims more to the idea that all "iron-banging" time under your belt can teach you something and increase your endurance for forging (and be rewarding in some way or why not take up stamp collecting or something else). I think Chandler was just trying to prove a point (or get a monkey off his back based on his comments). However, it is a great steel for railroad ties and even coat hooks :-). I've also hot cut with a mild steel hardy and it worked ok but I would not choose to make one like that. I don't think it was ever a discussion to prove that a spike is good steel for knives. The forging range, difficulty of moving the steel, and HT are all different as is how effective they will be for their purpose. Make a punch or chisel with mild steel, 5160, W2 or H13 and you face the same issues. Your comment goes for all carbon steel items. I like decorative ironwork and antique reproduction mostly but am of the school that a good knife is 20% steel selection, 30% geometry and 50% heat treat. Latticino, I agree with your advice about leaf or coils springs, especially if you are practicing to improve knife-making skills. I'm not saying using a spike is a soup to nuts dry run of knife making. We are just making recommendations based on our experience and trying to help. Of course anyone is free to go their own path. That is why, given the relative low cost of, say, automotive spring drops from a shop that replaces them (to date free with a little dumpster diving for me), many folks strongly recommend that you use actual high carbon steel to forge knives out of once you get basic forging skills under your belt. You can't learn that technique with mild steel. Mild steel just works differently.Īlso one of the key elements of making a good knife is heat treatment. It will be harder to work, and will need to be worked in a different temperature band to avoid either burning the steel at the high end or cracking it at the low end. I wouldn't call one a good knife by any stretch but they are fun to make and many like them. And if you are having fun or just practicing techniques there's nothing wrong with that.Īgree, but with one caveat: If you are practicing techniques for forging knives with spikes and expect the steel to move under the hammer while hot in the same way once you use actual high carbon steel you are in for a surprise. If you forge the head and tang out and add a traditional handle, then what's the point? Even if you add a high carbon edge your still left with an overly heavy handle and poor balance, and is a novelty item would hold a decent edge. There are a lot of things you can do with RR spikes, making a decent knife is not one of them. As for the chop test, would like to examine the edge before and after chopping with a radio shack hand held microscope, think it's something like 30 power? I've seen dull to the touch European swords cut mats with a single swing. The free hanging rope test is more about sharpness, geometry and speed of swing than steel or hardness. I didn't see the video, but I did see an article from Wayne Goddard about a student passing the free hanging rope test with a dead soft mild steel blade, it folded over in the 2x4 test. I have even seen some high carbon damascus RR spikes made and then forged into knives. I have seen some that had a high carbon or damascus edge welded on and have been wanting to try that myself but haven't had time. RR spikes can be fun to play with, but the simple fact is they lack enough carbon to make a decent knife. Will it skin a deer? Yes, but then so would a hammered out brass shell casing. Most people I see buying RR spike knives do it for letter openers and the novelty of it. You can make a knife from a RR spike, and you can play tricks with super quench or water or whatever to give it a marginal edge. In 1984, Italian music producer Giorgio Moroder released a truncated version with a soundtrack by rock artists including Freddie Mercury, Loverboy, and Adam Ant. Many attempts have been made since the 1970s to restore the film. It was cut substantially after its German premiere. The film's long running time also came in for criticism. Its alleged communist message was also criticized. Wells described the film as "silly", and The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction calls the story "trite" and its politics "ludicrously simplistic". Critics found it visually beautiful and powerful – the film's art direction by Otto Hunte, Erich Kettelhut, and Karl Vollbrecht draws influence from opera, Bauhaus, Cubist, and Futurist design, along with touches of the Gothic in the scenes in the catacombs, the cathedral and Rotwang's house – and lauded its complex special effects, but accused its story of being naive. Metropolis met a mixed reception upon release. The film's message is encompassed in the final inter-title: "The Mediator Between the Head and the Hands Must Be the Heart". Made in Germany during the Weimar period, Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and follows the attempts of Freder, the wealthy son of the city master, and Maria, a saintly figure to the workers, to overcome the vast gulf separating the classes in their city and bring the workers together with Joh Fredersen, the city master. Filming took place over 17 months in 1925–26 at a cost of more than five million Reichsmarks, or the equivalent of about €21 million. The silent film is regarded as a pioneering science-fiction movie, being among the first feature-length movies of that genre. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G. It stars Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Brigitte Helm. Fragile Heart increases the Knight's available health by two Masks, Fragile Greed increases the amount of Geo the Knight receives from all sources, and Fragile Strength increase damage dealt. Leg Eater only sells three charms, but each of them are quite powerful. Leg Eater will request a nominal fee to "see something nice," so pay up and you'll gain access to a useful Charm vendor. Slash the lever to unlock the gate, then hop up through the top exit and enter the gated arena to initiate the Shrumal Ogre miniboss encounter. After dispatching or bypassing the new shrieking mushroom enemies, head up to the upper platform and proceed left, back into the previous area through the top left exit. Several passageways are blocked off, so take the only exit available and continue right into the next area. Continue through the right side exit, then head up through the shaft, dodging the explosive spores as you go. Purchase the Fungal Wastes area map for 75 Geo, then go back up to the previous area and head right. Descend and take the first left and you’ll find him in an alcove. Most red-tailed hawks are rich brown above and pale white below, with a streaked belly and, a dark bar on the underside of their wings. borealis tend to have dark spotting on leg feathers but otherwise average paler than immatures of most other races. This race only has pale morphs and almost always bears a whitish ground color with little barring overall, including a variably present dark necklace, a frequently absent or much reduced belly band and little to no barring on the flanks or the upper legs. borealis was from Wisconsin migrants, with 34 males averaging 945.3 g (2.084 lb) and 24 females averaging 1,222.4 g (2.695 lb). Based on linear dimensions, this subspecies shows the most size variation and, unlike the red-tailed hawk species overall, size variation seems to fall within Bergmann's rule as northern birds average larger than southern ones. This is a large-bodied, relatively heavy race, but differs from more westerly hawks in having a relatively smaller wing area. The giant detective and the children have come to an understanding. He's no longer scared of them and no longer angry. Kimble is smiling, ecstatic that his plan worked. All they've been missing is for someone to talk to them like real people and not coddle them. Kimble is stern, using a whistle to get the kids to follow orders. When little Miko Hughes famously delivers the line, "Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina," Kimble can only dryly say, "Thanks for the tip." He doesn't try to get down on their level. Kimble has zero idea how to handle them other than being his strong-cop self. When the kids laugh innocently at him sitting on a piano, he mocks their laughter and tells them to be quiet. Schwarzenegger is known for seldom showing fear, but now he's freaking out.over five-year-olds. He shifts his tie and breathes heavily, and then, as he walks into the classroom, he stares at the kids sitting on the floor as if they're aliens who could attack him at any second. Kimble looks like a nervous wreck standing in the hall as he's about to be introduced to the class. It's the absurdity of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a kindergarten teacher in over his head that audiences came for. But that's not what made the film work so well though. Cullen Crisp is your run-of-the-mill bad guy. The plot is your standard paint-by-numbers action routine. In 1990, with Kindergarten Cop, Schwarzenegger starred in a film where he made fun of his image, all while being surrounded by the most hilarious five-year-olds. The fish-out-of-water scenario of a cool cop who can handle anything except for little kids was a clever setup for Hollywood's biggest star. Here, he'd get to still be the badass gun-toting cop, but in a great twist of a premise: his character would go undercover as a kindergarten teacher. The success of Twins showed that Schwarzenegger could be more than the action hero: he could make audiences laugh, too! With that in mind, just two years later, Schwarzenegger tried his hand at another comedy with Reitman. Toward the end of the decade, however, he tried something new with 1988's Twins, Ivan Reitman's hilarious buddy comedy that saw Arnold being the long-lost twin brother of his exact physical opposite, Danny DeVito. Olympia was a menacing presence, whether it be as the bad guy in The Terminator or the cool hero in Commando and Predator. All of that could have been avoided if Kimble, who is really into being a teacher at that point, would have said something. No actor was bigger in the 1980s than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Remembering the conversation (and hopefully the fact that he should have advised against it), Kimble goes and rescues Dominic who is stuck after slipping on the platform. And wouldn't you know it, that's what happens later in the movie when the young boy goes missing. When the teacher and student are looking at the tower, Kimble never even thinks to tell Dominic that maybe he shouldn't go climb a tall tower that will certainly lead to danger, injury, and possibly even death with one slip. Why Didn't Kimble Tell Dominic That It Was A Bad Idea To Climb The Tower In The First Place?Ī few days after having an impromptu dinner at a fancy restaurant, fellow teacher Joyce Palmieri (Penelope Ann Miller) invites John Kimble over to her place where the undercover cop goes on a walk with Dominic Palmieri to see the young boy's collection of toys and gadgets that he plans to use to protect him from the "bad men." One of those tools is a laser that he plans on installing on a large communications tower down the road from his mom's house. PatientsĪ convenience sample of adult patients with dyspepsia for whom the emergency doctor ordered a “GI cocktail”. This is a single centre, double-blind, randomized controlled trial. The GI Cocktail is no more effective than plain liquid antacid: a randomized, double blind clinical trial. The patients only had “possible” MI, and we are given no further details.) However, the primary question for this post is: does a pink lady provide any more pain relief than an antacid alone? The paperīerman DA, Porter RS, Graber M. I started looking, and the only citation I could find was Wrenn 1995, in which they say “eight (73%) of eleven patients admitted for possible myocardial ischemia were noted to have some degree of relief after the GI cocktail.” (Wrenn 1995) That is far from definitive. (As an aside, please let me know if you are aware of the studies that led to the common teaching that the pink lady leads to misdiagnosis in the setting of ACS. Others warn against it, for fear that it can lead to misdiagnosis in the setting of MI. Some practitioners use it as a matter of routine. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine in pregnancy. The “pink lady” or “GI cocktail”, a combination of an antacid and viscous lidocaine, is both much loved and much hated in emergency medicine. The physical barrier helps prevent the acid rising into the oesophagus (food pipe) meaning that Gaviscon does not need to be absorbed into the bloodstream to provide effective relief. This works with the body by forming a protective barrier on top of the stomach contents. One of Gaviscon’s key ingredients is alginate. What makes Gaviscon suitable for pregnancy These include Gaviscon Original, Gaviscon Double Action and Gaviscon Advance in both liquid (not syrup) and tablet format. Many products in the Gaviscon range are highly effective and suitable to use during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. Although harmless to you and your baby, it can be painful and leave you feeling uncomfortable. The symptoms of heartburn and indigestion are the same for anyone else who suffers. During the latter stages of pregnancy symptoms can also be caused by the baby physically putting pressure on the woman's digestive tract. When this relaxes, stomach acids are able to travel back up into the oesophagus (food pipe) causing heartburn. This includes the sphincter (ring of muscle) at the entrance to the stomach. The surge in the hormone progesterone causes muscles to relax. There are two main reasons why heartburn and, to a lesser extent, indigestion are common at this time. In fact, by the third trimester nearly three quarters of pregnant women can suffer from heartburn. Many women suffer from both heartburn (acid reflux) and indigestion during pregnancy and it tends to become more common as the pregnancy progresses. |
